Driver's Safety Course

Rhome Municipal Court is a "Court of Record" as established by City Ordinance in 2012.

Municipal Court - office hours are:  Mon-Thurs, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  ***Court is closed on Fridays -- There will not be court staff available to assist you on Fridays.           

If you are charged with a moving violation, you may request, not later than your initial "Appear By" date (20 business days from the date of your citation), to take a Driver Safety Course for dismissal of your violation.  At the time of the request, you must present the required items to the court with your plea and your original citation.

You will be required to complete a TDLR approved Driver Safety Course (NOT an Adult Driver Education Course).  You MUST present to the Court, not later that the 90th day from the date of your plea, your original & signed DSC Certificate of Completion.  Failure to comply by the deadline may result in a judgment of guilt, additional state fees and court costs being assessed, and your violation may appear on your driving record as a conviction.

You must submit ALL OF THE FOLLOWING ITEMS to the court WITH your PLEA request for DSC & your ORIGINAL CITATION within 20 business days from the date of your citation (the "Appear By Date" is printed on your citation half-way down in the "Court Information" section)

  1. Provide a copy of your valid and current TEXAS driver license, or current and valid U.S. Military DL or be the spouse/dependent of a U.S. Military personnel
  2. Provide a copy of current and valid auto insurance that shows you as a covered driver that is valid for at least the next 90 days.
  3. You cannot have taken a DSC for ticket dismissal for any court within the last 12 months from the date of your violation in the City of Rhome ---- you will be required to submit a sworn affidavit stating you have not had a course within the last 12 months
  4. Provide a copy of your Type 3-A Driving Record printed from the following TX DPS website: https://txapps.texas.gov/tolapp/txldrcdr/TXDPSLicenseeManager
  5. Required to pay $144.00 (court costs and State fees)  OR  Pay $169.00 for violations that occur in a school zone

(if you pay in CASH, you must bring the EXACT amount.  The court does NOT have change & cannot accept overpayments)

You are  NOT ELIGIBLE  to take a DSC 

  1. IF you have taken a DSC within the last 12 months for ticket dismissal in any court
  2. IF you have an out-of-state driver license
  3. IF you have a Class A or B Commercial Drivers License
  4. IF your alleged speed was 25 mph or more over the posted speed limit OR if your alleged speed was 95 mph or more
  5. IF you have committed one of the following offenses:
    • Was in construction zone with workers present;
    • Passing a school bus; 
    • Passing Authorized Emergency Vehicle
    • Fail to Yield Row to Authorized Emergency Vehicle  
    • Failure to give information at accident scene;
    • Leave the scene of accident;
    • A serious traffic violation;
